What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In addition, successful outcomes are well-documented in the literature for EMDR treatment of other psychiatric disorders, mental health problems, and somatic symptoms. The model on which EMDR is based, Adaptive Information Processing (AIP), posits that much of psychopathology is due to the maladaptive encoding of and/or incomplete processing of traumatic or disturbing adverse life experiences. This impairs the client’s ability to integrate these experiences in an adaptive manner. The eight-phase, three-pronged process of EMDR facilitates the resumption of normal information processing and integration. This treatment approach, which targets past experiences, current triggers, and future potential challenges, results in the alleviation of presenting symptoms, a decrease or elimination of distress from the disturbing memory, improved view of the self, relief from bodily disturbance, and resolution of present and future anticipated triggers. What is clinical hypnosis?

Clinical hypnosis is a process of guiding a person into an absorbed, focused mental state, and then utilizing that state to elicit change in cognitive, behavioral, or physiological processes.
Clinical hypnosis should only be used by a trained mental health professional. Someone trained in this mind-body approach assists the client to go into a more focused state of mind (often called a “hypnotic state, relaxed focus or relaxed concentration”) to assist in learning more about themselves, improving health, and changing habits and thought patterns.

Do you provide in-person or online sessions?

I offer both in-person sessions (office located in Medina, Ohio) and a virtual option to all residents of Ohio (via SonderMind platform).

How long will I be in counseling and what does a typical counseling schedule look like?

Counseling like any other healing journey is individual and varies for each person. During our first sessions, we work together to identify your treatment goals and explore more about the frequency and duration of your therapeutic journey.

Initially, it is normal that I meet with my clients on a weekly basis. During our time together, we will regularly check in on progress. We will collaborate to determine any changes in frequency of appointments. Typically as my clients progress, the frequency of sessions reduces to biweekly, to monthly, and then successful termination once treatment goals are obtained.

How long are sessions?

Sessions can range between 30-60 minutes based on needs. Typically, I work with clients for 60 minutes each session.
